How to Delete Stickers on Snapchat (Snaps, Recents, Custom Stickers and Chats)
To delete stickers on Snapchat, press and hold the sticker on the Preview screen, then drag it into the trash can. That takes it off the Snap you’re editing. To clear a sticker from the Recents row in your sticker drawer, press and hold it there and tap Remove from Recents. Snap’s sticker help page confirms there’s no way to delete all stickers at once, so you remove them one by one.
That’s enough for most people. Saved Snaps, custom stickers and messages you’ve already sent each need a slightly different move, and a few tips that still float around online don’t match the app anymore.
Steps checked against Snapchat Support in October 2026. Snapchat renames buttons now and then, so labels may differ a little between app versions.
Find your sticker first
Pick the row that matches where your sticker is sitting. The last column shows whether Snap documents the step or whether it’s based on how users describe the app.
| Where the sticker is | What to do | Who says so |
| On a Snap you’re editing | Press and hold, drag it to the trash | Snap Support |
| In Recents in the sticker drawer | Press and hold, tap Remove from Recents | Snap Support |
| In Favorites (heart tab) | Press and hold it in the heart tab and look for the remove option | Snap documents adding only |
| A custom sticker you made with Scissors | Press and hold it in the scissors tab, tap Delete | Users and guides; Snap doesn’t document it |
| On a Snap saved in Memories | Open the Snap in edit mode, then drag the sticker to the trash | Snap Support (edit mode) |
| Sent in a Chat | Press and hold the message, tap Delete | Snap Support |
| Inside a screenshot or Camera Roll photo | Snapchat can’t remove it; crop it or use a photo editor | Not a Snapchat feature |
How to delete stickers on Snapchat before you send
This is the one most people mean. You’ve stuck something on a Snap, it looks wrong, and you want it gone before anyone sees it.
- Take your Snap so you’re on the Preview screen.
- Press and hold the sticker.
- Keep your finger down and start dragging. A trash can icon appears.
- Drop the sticker on the trash can and let go.
Repeat for each sticker. Got a Snap covered in them? Tapping the X in the corner, discarding the Snap and taking a new one is often faster.
The steps are the same on iPhone and Android, but the trash can doesn’t always show up in the same spot. Depending on your phone and app version it can sit at the bottom or along the side. Can’t see it? Keep holding and drag slowly. It only appears once the sticker starts moving.
Here’s a detail that trips people up. Snap uses press and hold for pinning a sticker to an object in your Snap, too. If the sticker locks onto something in a video instead of lifting off, you held still for too long. Start dragging sooner.
Removing stickers from Recents and Favorites
The Recents row fills up fast. Sometimes there’s a sticker in there you’d rather a friend didn’t spot over your shoulder.
- Open any Chat and tap the smiley face icon to open the sticker drawer.
- Find the sticker in your Recents.
- Press and hold it.
- Tap Remove from Recents.
That’s the method Snap describes in its guide to what you can send in Chat. It only clears the sticker from your Recents list. Built-in stickers stay in Snapchat’s library because they belong to Snap, not to your account.
Favorites are less clear. Snap explains how to add one (press and hold, then Add to Favorites, and find it later under the heart tab) but says nothing about taking one out. Pressing and holding the sticker inside the heart tab is the place to check.
How to delete custom stickers you made with Scissors
Custom stickers, often called cutouts, come from the Scissors tool. You trace around something in a photo Snap, or tap New Sticker in the sticker drawer and pick a photo, and Snapchat turns it into a sticker. Snap says these save to your sticker drawer automatically. That’s why an old cutout of your friend’s face keeps popping up months later.
To delete one:
- Open the sticker drawer, either from a Chat or from the Preview screen.
- Tap the scissors tab, where your custom stickers are kept.
- Press and hold the sticker you want gone.
- Tap Delete when the option appears.
Be aware that Snap’s help page explains how to make custom stickers but doesn’t spell out how to delete them. The press-and-hold Delete option is how users describe it in recent versions of the app. No Delete option showing? Update Snapchat from your app store and try again.
Animated stickers made from a video clip work the same way. Making them is a Snapchat+ feature, according to Snap, so you’ll only have them if you subscribe. Here’s what Snapchat+ includes if you’re not sure.
Seeing stickers made from your own photos that you never created? Snap has a setting called Auto Stickers that suggests new stickers from recent Snaps in Memories and your Camera Roll. Snap says you switch it on from the sticker drawer, so that’s where to switch it off.
Taking a sticker off a Snap saved in Memories
Saved a Snap and now regret the sticker? Open it in edit mode first.
- Swipe up from the Camera screen to open Memories.
- Press and hold the Snap.
- Tap the edit option.
- Press and hold the sticker and drag it to the trash.
- Save your changes.
Snap’s Memories help covers the first three steps but doesn’t name the edit button, so the wording may vary on your phone. A sticker that won’t react when you press it has most likely become part of the image, and Snapchat can’t lift it off. There’s more on how Snapchat Memories works if you’re new to it.
Can you delete a sticker you already sent in Chat?
You can’t edit a sticker after it’s sent, but you can delete the whole message.
- Press and hold the sticker in the Chat.
- Tap Delete.
That works for any message, so GIF stickers (see how GIFs work on Snapchat) and Bitmoji stickers come out the same way.
Snap is upfront about the limits here. Your friend will see that you deleted something, and they may have screenshotted it before you got there. Snap also says removal from its servers and your friend’s phone isn’t guaranteed to be instant, for example if they’re on a bad connection or an old app version.
Stuck a sticker on a Snap you already sent? You can delete that Snap the same way, but only while it shows as Delivered or Opened. For a Snap on your Story, open your Story from your profile, swipe up on the Snap, tap the trash can, then tap Delete.
Stickers on screenshots and Camera Roll photos
Once a sticker ends up in an image outside Snapchat, like a screenshot or a Snap exported to your Camera Roll, Snapchat can’t remove it. It’s just pixels at that point.
You can crop it out, or try your phone’s own photo eraser if it has one. Clean Up in Apple Photos and Magic Eraser in Google Photos are two examples, though both depend on your device. Expect mixed results on busy backgrounds. Stick to your own photos for this.
Old advice that doesn’t work anymore
A lot of guides still repeat steps from older versions of Snapchat. Here’s how those claims compare with Snap’s current help pages, checked in October 2026.
| What you’ll read online | What Snap says now |
| Go to Settings, then Account Actions, then Clear Sticker Searches | Adweek described that option in 2019. Snap’s current help doesn’t list it. Today’s Clear Data menu offers Delete Search History, and Snap doesn’t say that touches stickers. |
| Clearing your search history empties your recent stickers | Snap documents a separate method: press and hold the sticker, then Remove from Recents. |
| Delete your Cameo sticker with Settings, Cameos, Clear My Cameo Selfie | Snap says Cameos in Chat are no longer available. The selfie Snapchat stores is now called My Selfie, and you remove it in Settings under My Selfie with Delete Selfie. |
| There’s a button to delete all your stickers | Snap says there isn’t. Stickers come off one at a time. |
| Shake your phone to undo a deleted sticker | Snap doesn’t document this anywhere, so don’t rely on it. |
What if someone made a sticker of you?
You can’t delete a sticker from someone else’s drawer. If a friend cut you out of a photo and you’re not okay with how it’s being used, the simplest fix is asking them to delete it. If it’s being used to bully or harass you, report it in the app:
- On a Snap: press and hold it, then tap Report Snap.
- In Chat: press and hold the message, then tap Report.
- On a Customoji: press and hold it, then tap Report.
You can also limit who puts your Bitmoji into Friendmoji stickers. Open Settings, scroll to Use My Bitmoji Avatar under Additional Services, and choose who’s allowed. Our page on Bitmoji on Snapchat explains where your avatar shows up.
FAQ
Why won’t Snapchat let me delete a sticker?
Most of the time it’s the gesture. You need to press, hold and drag in one movement, because holding still can pin the sticker instead. Still stuck? Check whether the sticker is now part of the image, which is common with older saved Snaps and screenshots. Snap’s built-in stickers can’t be deleted from the library at all; you can only clear them from Recents. An outdated app can also cause odd behaviour, so update Snapchat before trying again.
Can I get a deleted sticker back?
Snap doesn’t offer a restore option for custom stickers you delete. If you still have the original photo, make the sticker again with Scissors or New Sticker. For a sticker you dragged off a Snap, just add it again from the drawer before you send.
Will my friends know I deleted a sticker?
Not if you removed it before sending, because nobody sees your Preview screen. If you delete a Chat message or a Snap after sending it, Snap says your friends can see that you deleted something.
One last tip: if the sticker you regret is already in a Chat, delete it right away. The sooner it’s gone, the smaller the chance anyone screenshotted it.
